We left Cingjing on the last day of 2014 and took the HSR back to Taipei. Once against, we arranged for transport via our minsu with OKBUS for a ride from Cingjing to Taichung HSR station. The return trip is 300NT/pax and that's a discounted price because we booked the bus through our minsu. The other peeps on the bus which didn't go through their minsu paid about 400NT I think.
The thing about travelling in Taiwan is that you will NEVER go hungry. You will never fail to find decent food. Even lunchboxes are everywhere and usually taste good! So we bought our brunch from this booth selling lunchboxes at Taichung HSR station.
We both chose 排骨 again
After 45 minutes and we're back in Taipei! Their MRT is very similar to what we have in Singapore! Super convenient and clean!
Our hotel was located near Shilin. Again, a 5-minute walk to Shilin Night Market, this time the biggest night market in Taiwan ^^
This is our hotel
Through my research, many people chose to stay in City Inn hotel because of its location - walking distance from Taipei Station. But when I checked the price, IT WAS FRIGGING EXPENSIVE! Prolly because of the period we are staying in Taipei which is from New Year's Eve till 4th Jan so I wasn't too surprised. I think it went to almost 200SGD per night?! It's not like we have a money-printing machine so we settled for somewhere less expensive but still at a relatively good location - Papersun Apartment!
This was also my favourite stay amongst all 3 hotels we've stayed at because this was the most spacious and had the best service. Our room was tidied every day and the staff are all super welcoming and helpful!! If I ever go back to Taipei, this place will definitely be on the top of my list!
We dropped our luggage at the hotel and went to our next location - Wufenpu 五分埔! The famous shopping district.
As you can see, Raohe Night Market is also a stone's throw from Wufenpu!
Feeling quite sad because there's nothing to buy in these winter season :( But there are quite a few shops that offers pretty good bargains! Kw bought some pants from this shop that's having this "Buy 2 Get 3 Free" promotion. Means you pick any 5 items and pay for 2 wtf?!?! BUT many of their apparels were also either quite passe or of not-so-good quality. So it's not so easy fishing out good stuff.
Tried looking for the famous Formosa Chang Braised Meat Rice but I couldn't find it in this massive "Bugis St". Kinda regretting it now cuz I should've asked around or something :/
Since we were intending to go for the New Year Countdown Party happening at City Hall, we left Wufenpu rather early to Raohe to grab an early dinner before going for the concert!
Unfortunately, we were WAY TOO EARLY and most stalls aren't even preparing to open yet. So it turns out we didn't have the chance to eat the street snacks from Raohe.
We just looked for a random shop that's already opened and settled our dinner there.
Kw's not so appetising-looking braised meat rice
Then we took the MRT to Taipei City Hall station!
Thought it was quite interesting for them to have a bill board showing the occupancy rate of the toilet lol
Already saw reporters while walking to the countdown concert!
The concert starts at 7 but we were there by 5 and it was filled with people already!
The concert finally started at 7 with a series of artistes I've never seen or heard of before. The only ones I was looking forward to were Show Lo, JJ Lin & Xiao Jing Teng.
By 10pm, my feet were aching SO BAD and we only manage to see Show Lo & Ella. Thinking about how much it would be a horror to squeeze with everyone else up the train in order to get back to the hotel, we decided to just head to Shilin Night Market for some food and back to the hotel. :p
Shrimp Flavoured Fishballs
Oyster Omelette
Kw was OBSSESSED over these beef cubes during the whole time we were in Taipei
Random Oyster Meesua
This was how we spent the first few uneventful moments of 2015....
....with the love of my life + my messy hair....
...partial view of the fireworks hehe
After which we got back to the hotel and continue watching Xiao Jing Teng at the countdown party on TV. TV time is basically what we have every night after we head back to the hotel, where we doze off watching 康熙来了 and 一见不钟情. :)
And that was the end of 2014 for me!
